For mild symptoms of joint disorder, treatment that does not involve surgery is performed, such as medication and physical therapy. In the case of serious joint damage, artificial joint replacement is widely used as the best treatment method. Although implants imported from the West had been common in the past, now it is possible to use highly durable, high quality Japanese-made implants created through new technological developments. These first-class implants are available only in Japan. At our department, we are performing procedures using these implants, enabling superior restoration of joint function (range of joint motion). We have a record of achievement of treating over 5,000 cases using these new implants.
The structure of these new implants is designed to restore physiological motor function, allowing the patient to do deep knee bends. Their characteristics enable the body’ s internal and external physiological movements to be structurally reproduced. Although everyday movements such as sitting cross-legged, sitting on your heels, and squatting down are diff cult with conventional artificial joints, these movements are made possible using these new implants through rehabilitation.
Another major characteristic of these new implants is that there is no oxidation degradation
of the polyethylene material. This polyethylene is referred to as “Blend-E,” as vitamin E is
added to the material, and this provides more than 30 years of antioxidant effects. The joint
surface also possesses superior wear-resistance, exhibiting 1/12 the wear that occurs with
conventional artificial joint surfaces.

Toho University Omori Medical Center opened in 1925, and this historic medical university in Japan is well known for its excellent treatment record.
