High-quality medical treatment helps prevent waste in terms of both the cost and the time required for treatment. Therefore, high-level perioperative management and surgical procedures are considered essential for minimizing the number of days spent in hospital after the necessary medical treatment has been performed. In cancer surgery at our hospital, we adopt the shortest clinical path and use a special abdominal closure method to achieve both of these goals. Abdominal closure is performed by using dermal suturing, a new technique used in plastic surgery, which results in a better appearance and reduces pain. As there is no need to remove stitches or perform disinfection, this method also simplifies postoperative management, greatly reducing the risk of complications such as postoperative infection. This is a major factor in reducing the time spent in hospital. However, abdominal closure has yet to become widely used among gastrointestinal surgeons worldwide due to the complexity of this method.
Cancer treatment with the Cyber Knife system of pinpoint radiotherapy is now indicated for lung and liver cancer as well as brain tumors. Although its application to these types of cancers is still at the experimental level worldwide, in our hospital we are building a track record of results. Robot-assisted surgery using the da Vinci surgical system offers more freedom during operations compared with minimally invasive laparoscopy, making it a particularly powerful tool for cancers in intrapelvic organs, where the field of view is narrow. In our hospital, we are pioneering its use for gynecological and gastrointestinal cancers in addition to prostate cancer.
It is not uncommon for underlying diseases or other conditions to be discovered in the process of cancer treatment. As our hospital is a large general hospital, such conditions can be treated by specialists in a range of different areas while patients are also undergoing cancer treatment. In the unlikely event that complications occur, these can also be treated appropriately. In this respect, our hospital is very different from other specialist cancer hospitals.
Our hospital established in 2007 and is the newest hospital belonging to the Saiseikai Imperial Gift Foundation, which boasts a history dating back over 100 years. Our institution functions as one of
Yokohama’s key hospitals and is equipped with all the latest medical equipment, including Cyber Knife technology for cancer radiotherapy by means of pinpoint
irradiation, the da Vinci surgery system for safe, effective cancer surgery, and a hybrid catheter room where various endovascular treatments can be carried out with a higher
level of safely. Even in Japan, few hospitals possess all three of these systems. Our hospital is currently in the process of obtaining Joint Commission International (JCI)
certification as a hospital constructed to meet international standards, and we are already accepting patients from overseas.
In addition to cancer treatment, we also focus on percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ischemic heart disease. Dr. Muramatsu of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is a world-renowned intervention practitioner who is capable of performing PCI with
excellent results even in severe cases for which surgery would normally be indicated in other countries, such as triple-vessel disease and total occlusion. Our advanced
intensive care unit (ICU) and coronary care unit (CCU) are also staffed by specialist physicians providing a full safety backup system.

If you have already received a confirmed diagnosis of gastric cancer in your home country, please provide gastroscopy and CT images in advance. If you have not received a confirmed diagnosis, or if you are unable to obtain imaging data, you will need to come to Japan for an examination and tests, including a consideration of whether or not surgery is indicated.
