YONEMORI Orthopaedic Hospital

Conditions Treated
Osteoarthritis of the knee and all orthopedic surgical procedures for Traumatic, Joint, and Spinal Disorders.

Treatment Methods (Artificial Knee Joint Replacement with Tailor-made Surgical Instruments and Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures)

Artificial knee joint replacement ideally utilizes implants designed to fit the shape and condition of individual patients’ knees, but these take time to produce and are extremely expensive. At our hospital, we produce disposable surgical instruments tailor-made for each patient to optimize the ability of patient’s knee joints to receive implants when performing replacement surgery. The world’s most advanced orthopedic surgery departments are currently attempting to pioneer the use of intraoperative computer navigation systems in artificial knee joint replacement surgery designed for individual patients, and additional use of tailor-made surgical instruments means that our hospital can perform surgery with even greater precision. Our hospital is currently the only hospital in Japan to have introduced this technique, which enables the use of artificial knee joints with long-term stability. Patients must undergo preoperative MRI/CT scanning to enable the production of these surgical instruments, but this can be carried out not only at our hospital, but also in our collaborating institution in Beijing, the Sino-Japan United Orthopedics Clinic (in the China Rehabilitation Research Center).

We also actively utilize minimally invasive surgery (MIS), which imposes less of a burden on the patient both during and after surgery, in the treatment of all types of traumatic, joint, and spinal disorders in the field of orthopedic surgery. In addition to artificial knee and hip joint replacement, we also perform endoscopic discectomy for intervertebral disc hernia, endoscopic laminectomy for spinal canal stenosis, and endoscopic vertebral fusion for disorders such as lumbar spondylolisthesis and lumbar instability. All of these surgical techniques require the latest diagnostic devices and the highest levels of skill.

Our hospital is a specialist orthopedic surgery hospital, but instead of specializing in particular diseases, our aim is to function as a general hospital providing advanced treatment in all fields of orthopedic surgery. This is because as Japan’s population ages, an increasing number of patients are suffering from several different disorders simultaneously at sites such as the lower back, knees, and hips. Not only do our doctors and other medical staff possess a high level of skills and knowledge, but our hospital is also equipped with top-class facilities for testing and surgery, including MRI, multi-detector CT, computer navigation systems, and a top-of-the-line “class 100” bioclean room.

We make every possible effort to provide medical care that puts the patient first. In order to respect the wishes of patients and offer care that ensures they are completely satisfied, we allocate an attending physician to each patient, and employ medical concierges to provide meticulous patient service. Patients’ families can also utilize a service whereby they watch images of the operation in another room in real time via a surgical field monitor, not only ensuring that the care we offer is highly transparent but also alleviating the worry felt by family members, helping to understand the mental and physical burden on patients and advance the provision of better medical care.

At our hospital, our priority is to “treat the person, not the disease.” Performing good surgery is not always synonymous with providing good medical care. We believe that providing good medical care means offering not only advanced, high-level surgical procedures, but also total medical care that will leave patients happy and satisfied. This may be the only time in your life that you will undergo surgery, and you should think carefully and seriously when choosing the right hospital for you. If you decide to undergo surgery at our hospital, all our doctors and other medical staff will do their utmost to repay your trust in us.

Our hospital is actively engaged in academic exchanges with China. One great advantage is that doctors from our hospital who are licensed as foreign doctors in China offer outpatient treatment in Beijing, meaning that after undergoing surgery in Japan, you can undergo your follow-up examinations in Beijing. Doctors and other medical staff from China also visit our hospital for ongoing training. We hope this will help set your mind at ease about undergoing treatment in our hospital.

Overview of the Treatment Schedule
(Model Case: Artificial Knee Joint Replacement)

Before coming to Japan, you will need to undergo MRI/CT scanning according to our instructions at the Sino-Japan United Orthopedics Clinic (in the China Rehabilitation Research Center) in Beijing, where doctors and medical staff from our hospital are based, to assess whether you can be accepted for treatment. After acceptance, the image data will be sent to Japan, and disposable surgical instruments will be tailor-made for you. This process takes around 4 weeks. You should come to Japan once the instruments are ready.
